Why engineered Vidar Design suits Quebec homes.

Vidar Design brings European oak to Quebec, in very wide planks and herringbone and chevron patterns. Ash and walnut round out the range for high-end interiors.

The whole collection is engineered, installed over concrete or radiant heat, finished in oil or varnish.

“Engineered hardwood gives you real wood with the stability our climate demands,” says Sefi Dollinger, Owner of Planchers Bellefeuille, serving Quebec homeowners since 1983.
Installation and climate

What it takes for an engineered floor to last in Quebec.

Engineered Vidar Design can be installed several ways: glued to a concrete slab, stapled to a wood subfloor, or floated with underlay. Unlike solid wood, it accepts concrete and low-temperature radiant heat. Always leave an expansion gap around the perimeter.

Target indoor humidity: 40-60%. Engineered wood tolerates swings better than solid, but a stable level keeps the joints tight all year.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions.

Can engineered hardwood go over a concrete slab?
Yes. That is one of its main advantages over solid wood: it can be glued or floated directly over concrete, in the basement or upstairs.
Is engineered compatible with radiant heat?
Yes. Vidar Design works with low-temperature radiant systems, as long as you follow the manufacturer’s warm-up guidance.
Can engineered hardwood be sanded?
Depending on the wear-layer thickness, it can usually be sanded and refinished once or twice. It is a real hardwood surface.
What humidity range should I aim for?
Between 40% and 60% year-round. Engineered stays stable in that range, even through Quebec winters.
